Developing the Second Element: Competence Assessment
Decision to Use a Key Features Case-based Assessment
The Continuing Competence Committee recommended proceeding with a key features, case-based assessment which was approved by the college board at their September, 2009 meeting. This decision was not made lightly. The committee sought extensive consultations with other occupational therapy and other health professions regulatory organizations, as well as competence and education experts who provided evidence upon which to make this important decision. The development of this assessment will proceed over the next two years, with the first group of registrants required to complete the assessment in 2013.
Engaging Occupational Therapists
It is the committee and board’s intent to both inform registrants of the decision and engage them in the ongoing development of the program. The aim is to have an assessment that is based on best practices, and is responsible, fair, cost-effective, and assesses everyday practice in a variety of occupational therapy contexts.
