Competence Maintenance

B.C. occupational therapists are required to maintain their competence. In 2012, the College is continuing its review of this element of the program.

Therefore registrants are not required to confirm their ongoing competence through submission of the current Declaration Form
.

However, the expectation that BC occupational therapists continue to maintain their competence remains. How they do this is up to the individual registrant. If registrants would like to continue to use the present tools, i.e. the self-assessment tool and/or the professional development plan to help guide their competence maintenance they may do so but they will not be used in any type of College audit in the future. In other words, any documents used this year and submitting a declaration form are not required for registrant renewal for the 2012-2013 registration year.

If you have questions regarding this, please direct them to info@cotbc.org.

Update

May 2012:
Many thanks!
Close to 35% of our registrants participated in the March survey to provide input into the Continuing Competence Program.

Preliminary results confirmed that the current competence maintenance tools need to be replaced by those that are available online and provide focused, individualized feedback.

Further analysis will be completed and inform the design of a new tool for launch in 2013.

Watch for further information regarding how you may participate in this important process.
