Competence Assessment (Exam)

The Continuing Competence Committee recommended proceeding with a key features, case-based assessment which was approved by the college board at their September, 2009 meeting. This decision was not made lightly.

The committee sought extensive consultations with other occupational therapy and other health professions regulatory organizations, as well as competence and education experts who provided evidence upon which to make this important decision. The development of the Continuing Competence Exam will proceed over the next 2-3 years, with the first group of registrants required to take the exam in 2014.

Engaging Occupational Therapists

It is the committee and board’s intent to both inform registrants of the decision and engage them in the ongoing development of the program. The aim is to have Continuing Competence Exam that is based on best practices, and is responsible, fair, cost-effective, and assesses everyday practice in a variety of occupational therapy contexts.

Information Sessions

The first step was to hold a session at the October 2009 Annual General Meeting. Others are being held throughout BC. If you would like to set up one in your area, please contact us at: 1 (866) 386-6822 or email the registrar at kcorbett@cotbc.org

Samples of the Exam Questions

We will send you questions and a reflection sheet to complete to provide us with feedback on content. Please email the college at: info@cotbc.org.

In 2010-11 the Continuing Competence Committee is developing a blueprint for the Continuing Competence Exam. Until this blueprint is completed, some of your questions may remain unanswered. In the meantime, we have provided you with answers to questions raised at the various presentations held across the province since November, 2009.
